Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Issues Red, Orange and Yellow Alerts Across 21 Districts; Heavy Rain to Continue for Next 48 Hours
Maharashtra, July 22, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of an intense spell of monsoon activity across Maharashtra over the next 48 hours, issuing Red, Orange and Yellow Alerts for 21 districts. The weather department has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, is expected in several parts of the state.
After a brief lull in rainfall over the past few days, the southwest monsoon has regained strength, bringing widespread showers across Konkan and the ghat regions of Central Maharashtra.
Konkan Under Orange Alert
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Palghar, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected.
Mumbai and Sindhudurg are under a Yellow Alert, with forecasts indicating heavy showers and gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph. Citizens have been advised to exercise caution, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Red Alert for Pune Ghat Areas
In western Maharashtra, Pune district is under a Yellow Alert, while the ghat regions of Pune have been placed under a Red Alert due to the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall.
The IMD has also issued an Orange Alert for the ghat sections of Satara and Kolhapur, where intense rainfall is expected.
Light to moderate rain is also forecast for Ahilyanagar, Sangli and Solapur.
North Maharashtra to Receive Heavy Rain
Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for Nashik district, while the district’s ghat areas are under an Orange Alert, with forecasts of heavy to extremely heavy rain.
Marathwada to See Moderate Showers
Districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms likely at isolated locations.
No special weather alert has been issued for the Marathwada region at present.
Heavy Rain Forecast for Vidarbha
Several districts in Vidarbha, including Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal, are also expected to receive widespread rainfall over the next two days.
Monsoon to Remain Active Till July 27
According to the IMD, the monsoon is expected to remain active across Maharashtra until July 27, with intermittent heavy rainfall likely in many districts.
The weather department has advised residents, commuters and farmers to closely monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding, landslides and waterlogging.
