Intel has reintroduced free coffee and tea for employees in an effort to lift workplace morale after a challenging year. The announcement comes as part of a bid to foster a more positive atmosphere at work sites, according to a report by The Oregonian. Last week, the company informed employees about the return of complimentary coffee and tea, which had been cut last summer as Intel aimed to reduce its annual budget by $10 billion.

In an internal forum, Circuit, Intel acknowledged that while the company still faces cost challenges, small comforts like free coffee make a meaningful difference in daily routines. “We know this is a small step, but we hope it is a meaningful one in supporting our workplace culture,” Intel stated.

Christy Pambianchi, Intel’s Chief People Officer, told employees during an all-company meeting that free and discounted food and drink perks had previously cost Intel $100 million each year. However, Pambianchi explained that due to the company’s current financial constraints, these benefits had to be suspended. Other complimentary perks, like free fruit, remain on hold.

Intel, facing increased competition and challenging financial conditions, recently announced plans to cut over 15,000 jobs globally. CEO Pat Gelsinger outlined the need to reduce costs by more than $10 billion to streamline operations. The company has also scaled back reimbursements for internet, phone, and commuting expenses. As part of the restructuring, over 2,000 jobs have already been cut across multiple U.S. states. An Intel spokesperson emphasized that these changes aim to create “a leaner, simpler, and more agile company” better positioned for long-term growth.
