Pune, Maharashtra, has witnessed an unusually cold start to November, with temperatures dipping to 15.9°C on November 11. This unexpected drop in temperature has brought a winter-like chill to the city. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a shift in weather patterns, with light rain and gusty winds expected from November 15-16.

The city has seen significant temperature swings since early November, with sudden drops followed by quick rises in the minimum temperature. Experts clarify that Pune is still in a transitional phase, moving from the monsoon season to winter, which officially begins in December. This fluctuation has resulted in foggy conditions during the night and early morning hours.

A new weather system forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to bring partly cloudy skies and light rain to Pune and surrounding areas. IMD officials have issued a yellow alert for Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, and other districts, cautioning residents of possible disruptions due to adverse weather. Winds are expected to range from 30 to 40 km/h.

Meanwhile, Pune’s air quality has deteriorated, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) worsening from 133 on November 8 to 154 by November 11. Some areas, such as Thergaon, recorded an alarming AQI of 313, indicating severe pollution levels. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to minimize health concerns.

As Pune’s weather continues to fluctuate, residents are reminded that the coldest months are yet to come, with December and January typically bringing the lowest temperatures of the year.
