Diljit Dosanjh has issued a bold challenge to state governments after receiving a notice from the Telangana government, asking him not to perform songs promoting alcohol and drugs during his Hyderabad concert. The singer-actor proposed that if alcohol consumption is banned nationwide, he would permanently stop singing songs referencing alcohol .

During his recent concert in Ahmedabad, Diljit refrained from singing any alcohol-themed songs, despite not receiving a notice from the Gujarat government. He explained to the crowd, “Even today, I won’t sing any song about alcohol. That’s because Gujarat is a dry state.” Diljit emphasized that his body of work includes far more devotional songs than tracks referencing alcohol, citing that he has sung dozens of devotional songs, including two released in the last 10 days alone .

Diljit also addressed criticism from a TV anchor who accused his fans of supporting him despite his alcohol-themed songs. He responded, “I never personally called anyone and asked if they drink. I’m just singing a song. Bollywood has plenty of songs about alcohol, and I might have one or two. That’s it.” He pointed out the hypocrisy, saying, “Bollywood celebrities promote alcohol in advertisements, but I don’t. Don’t poke me. I quietly do my program and leave” .

The singer challenged the government to take a stronger stance, saying, “Let’s start a movement if all states ban liquor consumption completely, I will never sing a song about alcohol again in my entire life. Is this possible? During COVID, everything was closed except liquor shops. You can’t fool the youth.” He suggested an alternative, “If not a complete ban, then at least declare a dry day in your state on the day of my performance, and I will refrain from singing any alcohol-related song” .

Diljit’s statement comes after the Telangana government issued him a notice, warning him against using children during his show due to the loud sounds and flashing lights, which could be harmful to them. The singer’s response has sparked a conversation about the government’s stance on alcohol consumption and the entertainment industry’s role in promoting it.
