In a concerning health development, at least 68 women in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, have tested positive for HIV during prenatal check-ups at a district women’s hospital. Users on social media engaged in discussions about the safety of tattoos and the cultural trends surrounding them.

Around 68 women in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, have reportedly tested positive for HIV. These women discovered their HIV status during prenatal check-ups and counseling at a local women’s hospital. Out of the 68 affected women, 20 suspect that they contracted the virus after receiving tattoos. They mentioned getting tattoos from street-side tattoo artists. Following the tattoo sessions, their health deteriorated, and HIV symptoms emerged. The women alleged that the tattoo artist reused the same contaminated needle multiple times. Fortunately, all the infected women received proper care during childbirth. On social media, some users criticized the increasing tattoo trend among Indian girls, while others argued that the risk of HIV transmission through tattoos is minimal.

One user expressed, “Tattoos are the first signs of mental depravity. What is it with Indian women and their tattoos? Every time I visit, I see more women with them.” Another added, “What is this tattoo nonsense? I mean, getting something permanently printed on your body that has no value is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen.” However, a different perspective came from another user who stated, “The chance of getting HIV from a tattoo is low to negligible. I’m sure the tattoo was just a convenient excuse.”
