In a closely contested election, Bapusaheb Pathare of the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) emerged victorious from the Vadgaonsheri constituency, defeating sitting MLA Sunil Tingre of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP by a margin of around 5,000 votes. The outcome was determined in the final round of counting after Tingre had maintained a lead for the first 22 rounds.

Vadgaonsheri, which encompasses areas like Koregaon Park, Yerawada, Kalyani Nagar, and Viman Nagar, witnessed a voter turnout of 55.71% among its 4.89 lakh voters. Pathare’s campaign gained momentum as he capitalized on anti-incumbency sentiments and unfulfilled promises attributed to Tingre. Tingre’s involvement in controversies, including allegations related to the Kalyani Nagar Porsche incident, further dented his prospects.

Leaders from the Mahavikas Aghadi, including Supriya Sule and Sushma Andhare, also criticized Tingre during campaign rallies, bolstering Pathare’s position. Despite expectations of a straightforward win for Pathare, the contest remained highly competitive until the final round, where he made a remarkable comeback to clinch the seat.
