'Miracle Baby' Beats Odds: Premature Infant Born At 6 Months Nursed Back To Health
In a remarkable display of medical expertise and determination, a team of doctors at Pune’s Jehangir Hospital has successfully nursed a premature baby born at just six months back to health.
The baby girl, who weighed a mere 900g at birth, was delivered via emergency C-section after her mother went into unexpected preterm labor. Doctors described the baby’s survival as a “miracle,” given the extremely low chances of survival for babies born at 26 weeks.
The baby faced a range of serious health complications, including the need for ventilator support and surfactant administration to promote lung maturity. She also developed renal failure due to immature kidneys, requiring peritoneal dialysis to remove waste.
A team of specialists, including senior neonatologist Dr. Sagar Lad, pediatric nephrologist Dr. Manoj Matnani, and senior obstetrician Dr. Nina Mansukhani, worked tirelessly to manage the baby’s complex condition.
After a stormy 83-day hospitalization, the baby was finally discharged, with doctors reporting no anticipated long-term problems.
Dr. Lad while speaking to the media person said that, the baby’s survival was a testament to the hospital’s state-of-the-art neonatal care facilities and the expertise of the medical team. “Timely administration of antenatal steroids for lung maturity and medications for neuroprotection of the brain were critical in helping the baby adapt to the external environment,” added Dr. Mansukhani.
The baby’s remarkable recovery has brought joy to her family and the medical team that cared for her. As Dr. Lad said while talking to the media that , “She had a very stormy course in the hospital, but she pulled through with no infections or major complications.”
