Pune, 13th December 2024: A dramatic incident unfolded in Wagholi when a young man, in a desperate attempt to save his vehicle, clung to the towing crane’s belt as his two-wheeler was being lifted. The moment, captured on video, quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.

The incident occurred two days ago when Tanaji Shinde, a farmer from Shrigonda, parked his vehicle in a no-parking zone outside a hotel where he had stopped for breakfast. As the traffic police began towing his vehicle, Shinde rushed out and, in a moment of panic, hung onto the towing belt to stop the crane. His actions were recorded and shared widely online.

Following the episode, the Traffic Police summoned Shinde, who acknowledged his mistake. He paid the fine and submitted a written apology for his behavior.

Assistant Police Inspector (Traffic), explained, “Before towing vehicles, we make announcements on loudspeakers. Despite this, the individual remained in the hotel until the towing process started. Instead of visiting the Traffic Branch office, just 100 steps away, he chose to act recklessly.”

He also highlighted the challenges such incidents create for the police. “These viral videos often misrepresent the police, impacting morale. We handle 40 to 50 citizens daily, many of whom refuse to accept their mistakes. It’s unfair to always blame the traffic police,” he added.

In response to the incident, local hoteliers have been instructed to prevent customers from parking in no-parking zones. This measure aims to improve traffic management and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
