Pimpri-Chinchwad, June 25, 2026: The Standing Committee of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has approved a series of major development proposals aimed at improving public transport, drainage infrastructure, fire safety, healthcare services and civic amenities across the city.

The decisions were taken during a Standing Committee meeting chaired by Abhishek Barne. Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor, Municipal Secretary Mukesh Kolap and officials from various civic departments were also present.

One of the key approvals was for the financial contribution required for the additional fourth metro station at Nigdi under the Pune Metro Phase-1 Extension Project being implemented by Maha Metro. The move is expected to improve metro connectivity and provide better public transport access to residents of Nigdi and surrounding areas.

To strengthen the city’s drainage network, the committee approved sewerage improvement works in Dighi, Bopkhel and nearby localities. Upgradation of the rising main sewer line between the Dapodi Pumping Station and Dapodi ST Stand was also cleared. In addition, a new water pipeline project for developing areas under the Sai Nagar elevated water tank zone in Mamurdi received approval.

The committee also sanctioned revised expenditure for the construction of a new fire station at Punawale to enhance emergency response capabilities in rapidly growing parts of the city. Maintenance and strengthening of fire safety systems at water treatment plants, pumping stations and administrative buildings were also approved.

In the healthcare sector, approval was granted for the repair and maintenance of sonography equipment and for payment of fees related to the annual accreditation process of 14 postgraduate medical courses at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.

Several infrastructure and civic improvement projects were also cleared, including maintenance of electrical systems, repairs to municipal schools in Ward No. 1, and road resurfacing works in Koyananagar, Moraya Housing Society and the CDC area.

The committee further approved repairs recommended under the structural audit of the main municipal administrative building and renovation of the civic headquarters’ assembly hall. Maintenance of roads and public facilities developed under the Urban Street Design programme was also sanctioned.

Ahead of the monsoon season, approval was granted for cleaning and repair of stormwater drains and gutters along the Pune-Alandi Road to help prevent waterlogging.

To promote sports and cultural activities, the committee approved the purchase of sports equipment for various competitions and training programmes organised by the civic sports department. Funds were also sanctioned for organising the ‘Abhivyakti Kala Mahotsav’ to provide a platform for local artists.

The committee additionally approved the continuation of vehicle-based thermal fogging services for dengue prevention and extended the contract of a women’s self-help group responsible for managing and maintaining a public toilet facility in the Shantinagar area of Bhosari.

To strengthen disaster preparedness, approval was given for the purchase of gas detector equipment for the Disaster Management and Fire Brigade departments, enabling quicker response to hazardous gas leak incidents.

Speaking on the occasion, Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne said the approved projects focus on improving essential civic services, enhancing infrastructure and ensuring better quality of life for residents. He expressed confidence that the projects would contribute significantly to the city’s overall development and public welfare.
