Maharashtra’s chilly nights are set to turn warmer, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a rise in night temperatures by 2-3°C from Monday. The change, attributed to southeasterly winds bringing moisture into the region, will end the ongoing cold spell affecting various parts of the state.

On Friday, Jalore recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 8.9°C. In Pune, the Shivajinagar area reported 12.6°C, while Lohegaon recorded 15.3°C. The IMD forecasts that cooler conditions will persist through the weekend, but a gradual warming trend is expected to begin early next week.

Speaking about the shift, S.D. Sanap, a scientist at IMD Pune, stated, “The current cold nights will continue over the weekend without much variation. However, from Monday onward, minimum temperatures are likely to increase by 2-3°C due to southeasterly winds and the westward movement of a low-pressure system near the Tamil Nadu coast.”

In Pune, clear skies are predicted in the coming days, with minimum temperatures expected to rise from 13°C on Sunday to around 15°C by Tuesday. Similar warming trends are expected across other regions in the state.

Despite the rise in temperatures, significant rainfall or cloudy weather is not on the horizon. The Konkan region, however, reported higher maximum temperatures, with Alibag recording 34.8°C on Friday, the highest in the state. IMD officials have clarified that while southeasterly winds will bring moisture, they are unlikely to result in rain or overcast conditions.

As Maharashtra transitions away from early December’s cold snap, residents can look forward to milder nights starting next week.
