In a widely shared incident from Nainital, a group of tourists was filmed yelling at local residents after allegedly being requested to refrain from littering on the street.

The video, which is currently trending on social media, has ignited conversations about responsible tourism and civic responsibility. Numerous viewers have commended the initiative to highlight these behaviors, while others have voiced their discontent regarding the tourists’ reactions, stressing the importance of keeping popular tourist spots clean.

The video posted by Instagram user Shinjini Sengupta captures a tense exchange that occurred when her sister challenged some tourists for reportedly throwing an empty packet and tissues onto the street.  The event featured tourists from Lucknow who were celebrating a birthday and left litter at the site.

Sengupta, who was on vacation with her sister, reported that the two women discarded their used tissues and cake packaging on the roadside rather than seeking out a trash bin. When Sengupta’s sister politely recommended that they properly dispose of their litter, the women reacted in a decidedly uncooperative manner.

“Nainital, 14th December, 15:00. These people cut a birthday cake and threw the tissue papers on the road. Next they threw the cake’s bag. My sister intervened, asking them politely to throw it in the dustbin. The lady in red said there is no dustbin. The shopkeeper then came up to her requesting the same. He also mentioned that police fines them for the trash thrown around. The guy (on their driver side) then picked the plastic bag and threw it in the adjacent valley. Ab cake k box k liye my sister told them again. That’s when the situation escalated,” says the post.

As the video continues to gain popularity online, it highlights the crucial importance for travelers to honor the locations they explore and maintain their cleanliness.

“literally looks like a stick, and confidence toh dekho even its her mistake,” says one comment. The other comment reads, “ I wonder what does the school teach us, isn’t it our responsibility to keep our surroundings clean?.

“The dustbin was hardly 5ft from where they stood. Yet they were quarrelling.Let’s find them and ensure that they don’t get to repeat this. In the least, let’s aim to be better citizens,” Sengupta concludes the post.
