Pune Railway Division Introduces QR Code-Based Identity Cards To Curb Illegal Vendors
In a bid to crack down on illegal vendors at railway platforms and in running trains, the Pune railway division has introduced QR code-based identity cards for authorized food and other vendors. This move aims to enable passengers to verify the authenticity of vendors by scanning the QR code on their identity cards.
The decision comes in response to a surge in complaints from passengers about illegal vendors selling food and other items at Pune railway station and in running trains. Over 300 unauthorized vendors have been caught in the past year, prompting the railways to take action.
Currently, Pune railway station handles around 230 train operations daily, catering to over 2 lakh passengers. The number of train operations had decreased during the Covid-19 pandemic but has since increased.
The QR code-based identity cards will provide passengers with easy access to details about authorized vendors, including their full name, contact number, and supervisor’s name.
The railway officials warned that action will be taken against illegal vendors found operating at the station premises. The introduction of QR code-based identity cards is expected to curb the menace of illegal vendors and provide a safer and more secure experience for passengers.
