Pune: Teen Hospitalised After Eating Pedha; FDA Orders Closure Of Wadgaon Sheri Dairy

Pune, June 13, 2026: The parents of a thirteen-year-old boy from Wadgaon Sheri have approached Pune Police seeking justice as the minor fell ill after consuming pedha from Wadgaon Sheri dairy, Gurunanak Milk Dairy. The child’s aunt told Pune Pulse that the child consumed Pedha when the neighbour was celebrating achievement in their family. The same pedha was also distributed among the neighbor’s in the same building who have also fallen ill.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on June 11 at a society in Wadgaon Sheri. The family alleged that a resident of the society distributed pedhas among neighbours to mark the purchase of a new vehicle. The sweets were reportedly purchased from a local dairy outlet in the area.
The child’s parents claimed that shortly after eating the sweet, the boy developed severe symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and weakness. As his condition worsened, he was admitted to a hospital for treatment, where he continues to receive medical care.
In their complaint to the Pune Police Commissioner and Chandan Nagar Police Station, the parents requested a detailed investigation into the incident. They have urged authorities to collect and test samples of the sweets, examine the food quality and storage practices at the dairy outlet, and involve the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) if required.
The family stated that the incident has caused significant physical suffering to the child and emotional and financial stress to the family. They have also informed authorities that medical records, hospital documents and other supporting evidence are available for investigation.
When Pune Pulse spoke to Digambar Bhogawade, Joint Commissioner, Pune FDA Food, he stated that upon complaint, the authority has sealed the outlet and also issued a stop work order to the dairy. Further investigation in the incident is being carried out.
Police are yet to comment on the complaint, and further inquiry into the matter is awaited.
