Maharashtra Govt to hoist Saffron Flag on Raigad and Shivneri Forts
In a move to pay tribute to the rich history of Maharashtra, the state government has decided to hoist a large saffron flag of Swarajya on Raigad and Shivneri forts. The decision was announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the Legislative Assembly.
Raigad Fort, which was the capital of the Maratha Empire during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, holds great historical significance. Shivaji Maharaj was coronated in Raigad fort in 1674. The fort, located at a height of 2900 feet above sea level, is also known as Rairi.
Shivneri Fort, on the other hand, is the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is located in Junnar town of Pune district. The fort has a small temple of Shivai Devi and images of Jijabai and Bal-Shivaji.
The decision to hoist the saffron flag on these forts was welcomed by MLA Sharad Sonavane, who demanded that employment opportunities be created for the people living in the fort. Chief Minister Fadnavis assured that the flag will be hoisted with the permission of the Archeology Department.
The Maharashtra Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Ruins Amendment Bill was also introduced in the Legislative Assembly by Minister Girish Mahajan. The bill aims to protect and preserve the state’s ancient monuments and archaeological sites.
In a surprising turn of events, MLA Aditya Thackeray demanded that ancient monuments should be destroyed to prevent vandalism. However, his demand was met with opposition from other MLAs.
The decision to hoist the saffron flag on Raigad and Shivneri forts is seen as a move to promote Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage and pay tribute to its historical significance.
