Pune, June 18, 2026: The Balewadi Welfare Federation has raised the long-pending issues of electricity, roads, and water supply affecting residents of the Baner-Balewadi area with the Maharashtra Government, seeking urgent intervention from senior state leadership.

The Federation has been consistently pursuing solutions to the three critical civic concerns—power, roads, and water—through both elected representatives and government authorities. Frequent power outages continue to inconvenience residents, highlighting the need for a dedicated electricity sub-station in the area. Following sustained efforts by the Federation, land was allocated for a sub-station in Balewadi in 2024. However, despite the allocation, no significant progress has been made on the project over the past two years.

The Federation has repeatedly followed up with officials from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (Mahatransco), as well as local representatives, demanding the commencement of construction work. However, the issue remains unresolved.

On the water supply front, a citizens’ agitation led by the Federation in 2023 resulted in the completion of a 3.8-kilometre pipeline project, providing partial relief to residents. Despite this improvement, many housing societies continue to depend on water tankers throughout the year.

The Federation has expressed concern over the rapid growth of high-rise residential projects in the area, which are expected to increase the population by 35,000 to 40,000 people in the near future. Questions regarding the long-term water supply plan have been raised before the Divisional Commissioner and during Pune Municipal Corporation meetings, but satisfactory answers are yet to be received.

The issue of inadequate road infrastructure in Baner-Balewadi has also remained unresolved for several years. Many roads are incomplete due to pending land acquisition, and the Federation believes that a policy-level decision is necessary to address the matter.

With local authorities and elected representatives unable to resolve these basic infrastructure concerns, the Federation has decided to pursue the matter directly with the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and the Minister of State for Urban Development.

The Federation has already communicated the ground realities to the Chief Minister’s Office and is expected to meet the Chief Minister soon. The issues have also been presented to Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, following which action has reportedly been initiated.

Representatives of the Federation also met Madhuri Misal, who assured them that efforts would be made to resolve the concerns. Former Mayor Manjusha Nagpure was also briefed in detail about the civic issues and has taken up the matter.

Federation representatives, including Moreshwar Balwadkar, Shakeel Salati, Sachin Patil, Dafedar Singh, Ashish Kotamkar, Sunil Galankar, and Ramesh Rokade, have been actively engaging with officials and policymakers at various levels to ensure that the concerns of Baner-Balewadi residents receive attention at the state level.
