From Cricket to Bollywood: What Pakistan Googled About India in 2024
Pakistanis appear to have a strong interest in various aspects of India, as demonstrated by Google’s “Year in Search” for the country. Each year, Google publishes its “Year in Search,” which highlights the most popular search trends and topics that have intrigued people in different nations. This encompasses a wide range of subjects, including news, sports, celebrities, films, television shows, and practical guides. Continuing this tradition, Google has recently unveiled the “Year in Search 2024” for Pakistan. This report showcases the main trends and topics that influenced the searches of the Pakistani population throughout the year, providing insight into what has piqued national interest across multiple domains.
The year-end list for Pakistan in 2024 features six categories: Cricket, People, Movies and Drama, How-to, Recipes, and Tech.
Google’s end-of-year summary highlights the top 10 most searched topics.
Interestingly, Google’s “Year in Search 2024” for Pakistan featured a lot of content related to India. This included searches for Indian business leaders, Indian shows on streaming platforms like Sony, Amazon Prime, and Netflix, as well as cricket matches involving the Indian team during the T20 World Cup.
When it comes to cricket, five of the most searched games in Pakistan were matches featuring India. Notably, the India-Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup was among them. Other highly searched matches included India vs. Australia, India vs. England, and India vs. South Africa key games for the Indian cricket team in the tournament.
In the “People” category, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries from India, topped the list. For “Movies and Drama,” the list was filled with Indian TV shows and featured four Bollywood films as well.
The popular TV shows that gained attention include Heera Mandi, 12th Fail, Mirzapur Season 3, and Bigg Boss 17. In terms of Bollywood films, the most Googled movies in Pakistan for 2024 were Animal, Stree 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Dunki.
On the other hand, India’s “Year in Search 2024” on Google showed no searches related to Pakistan at all. This year, the searches in India covered a wide range of topics, featuring an exciting mix of sports enthusiasm (from the IPL to the Olympics), a love for entertainment across various languages (including Stree 2 and K-dramas), indie music trends (like Nadaaniyan), amusing memes that are both “demure and mindful,” and unique, quirky slang (or Pookie!).

This was noted in a blog discussing the trends and themes that defined India’s Year in Search 2024. Google India also revealed that the top searches for 2024 showcased a wide range of interests, spanning sports, entertainment, and social trends.
