Pune: The long-standing issue of traffic congestion on Katraj-Kondhwa Road has prompted decisive steps from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Citizens have been struggling with severe traffic jams in the area, and measures are now being implemented to address the problem.

To streamline traffic flow, construction of a flyover at Katraj Chowk is currently underway under the PMC’s initiative. However, an essential plot of land required for the project has not yet been acquired by the corporation. Taking note of this delay, PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhonsle directed the Roads and Land Acquisition Department to expedite the process of securing the land.

A meeting chaired by Dr. Bhonsle was held with the landowners, especially those whose plots are critical for the ramp work on the Kondhwa side of the flyover. According to Aniruddha Pawaskar, Head of the Roads Department, the landowners have agreed to grant early possession of their plots based on a written assurance.

The widening of the Katraj-Kondhwa Road has been stalled for several months due to delays in land acquisition, significantly slowing progress. Residents frequently face traffic congestion and safety risks due to the high volume of vehicles on this route. This concern has been acknowledged at the central level, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewing the project’s progress.

Despite PMC receiving a grant of ₹140 crore from the government, the land acquisition process has been moving at a sluggish pace. Acknowledging this, the commissioner instructed the administration to prioritize the acquisition and expedite the roadwork to alleviate the area’s traffic woes.
