Who Loves More: Parents or Lover? Man Fakes Own Kidnapping to Find Out, Leaves Police Stunned

An unusual attempt to test familial love turns into a baffling police investigation in Lucknow.
In a bizarre incident, a 22-year-old man from Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, staged his own kidnapping to determine whether his parents or his lover cared more about him. The case, which initially seemed like a serious abduction, turned out to be a fabricated tale by the man, Anup Patel.
The drama unfolded when Anup’s brother, Raju Patel, who works at Noida Jewar Airport, received a frantic message claiming that Anup had been abducted by an auto driver and his associates. Moments later, Anup’s phone went off, prompting Raju to alert the Lucknow police. Anup had traveled to Lucknow to appear for an exam, but the family’s concern spiraled into panic after hearing about the supposed kidnapping.
The police quickly launched an investigation. Gomtinagar SHO Rajesh Kumar Tripathi stated that a search operation was initiated within minutes. CCTV footage from Gomtinagar Railway Station revealed Anup walking calmly toward the station, contradicting his claims. Further tracking of his mobile phone led the police to the Awadh bus stand in the Chinhat area.
When officers arrived at the location, they found Anup sitting comfortably, entirely unaffected by the commotion he had caused. Upon interrogation, he admitted to fabricating the kidnapping story. His motive? To gauge whether his parents or his lover cared more for him.
The revelation left both the police and his family in disbelief. What started as a heartfelt inquiry into love turned into a senseless act that wasted police resources and caused unnecessary panic.
Lucknow DCP emphasized the importance of using police helplines responsibly, stating that such hoaxes divert critical resources from genuine emergencies. Anup Patel’s peculiar method to evaluate love ultimately left his family distressed and the police baffled.
