Air India Express started its first direct flight from Surat, Gujarat, to Bangkok on Friday, and the flight was fully booked. Passengers shared videos of their experience on social media, which got a lot of attention.

Reports say that passengers drank around 15 liters of premium alcohol like Chivas Regal, Bacardi, and beer, worth ₹1.8 lakhs. The crew even had to announce that they ran out of alcohol before landing in Bangkok.

The flight was also special for its food, as passengers brought traditional Gujarati snacks like thepla and khaman, along with pizza. These snacks went well with the refreshments served on board, and everything was eaten during the 4-hour journey.

However, some social media users raised questions about the initial reports. They pointed out inconsistencies, especially regarding the claim of 300 passengers. One user mentioned, “An Airbus or Boeing 737 can’t hold 300 passengers; the maximum is around 176. Even if there were that many, the alcohol consumption would average about 85ml per passenger over the 4-hour flight.”

The event led to conversations about Gujarat’s prohibition policy. One social media user pointed out, “This shows that people in Gujarat want to drink alcohol. Maybe the state should rethink its prohibition rules and consider making money from regulated alcohol sales, especially with the current illegal trade happening.”

Others looked at the situation from a cultural perspective, with one user saying, “Gujarati people always find a way to enjoy things, and they showed that here too.”
