Pune witnessed a shocking incident in Hadapsar, where a young pedestrian was assaulted and dragged by mobile thieves. The incident occurred on Friday evening when the victim, a resident of Bhagirathinagar, resisted a theft attempt by two motorcycle-borne assailants.
According to the complaint filed at Hadapsar police station, the thieves attempted to snatch the victim’s mobile phone while he was walking towards his residential society around 8:30 PM. When the victim resisted, the thieves dragged him for 200 to 300 meters on their motorcycle. During the scuffle, one of the thieves bit the victim’s hand, leaving him injured. The thieves eventually fled with the mobile phone.
The altercation also caused injuries to the victim’s knee. Following the incident, Assistant Police Commissioner Ashwini Rakh and Senior Police Inspector Santosh Pandhare visited the scene, while Sub-Inspector Arjun Kudale is leading the investigation.
Police have noted a rising trend of thefts targeting pedestrians in the city. Over 167 incidents of street robberies have been reported in Pune by the end of November. Authorities are intensifying efforts to curb such crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice.
