Pune: NGT Seeks Report on Shivganga River Pollution in Bhor
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) bench in Pune has directed the municipal council, Bhor sarpanch, and Pune district collector to submit a report on the dumping of waste and pollution in Shivganga river and Lendi nala. The report is due before the next hearing on February 10, 2025.
The directions were issued on December 19, following a complaint filed by a citizen regarding pollution in the Shivganga river and Lendi nala. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) verified the complaint and carried out an inspection in June, which supported the allegations.
The NGT bench, comprising Chairperson Prakash Shrivastava, Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh, and expert member Vijay Kulkarni, has impleaded the municipal council, Bhor sarpanch, and Pune district collector, stating that they must file a response by way of affidavit within four weeks.
The tribunal’s move aims to address the environmental concerns surrounding the Shivganga river and Lendi nala. The MPCB will conduct a fresh inspection and submit a report to the tribunal, providing a comprehensive assessment of the pollution levels and recommending measures to mitigate the issue.
