The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued notices to 438 private hospitals and clinics in the twin cities for failing to obtain a fire safety no-objection certificate (NOC) from the fire brigade department. This move is part of the civic body’s efforts to ensure fire safety compliance in healthcare establishments.

Out of 623 private hospitals and clinics registered with the corporation, only 72 have received the NOC so far. Applications from 190 hospitals and clinics are currently being reviewed, with some of these establishments also receiving notices. The PCMC’s fire department has warned that if these establishments fail to obtain the fire NOC, their registration will not be renewed.

“We will share the list with the health department, and they will take necessary action,” said Manoj Lonkar, deputy municipal commissioner and head of PCMC’s fire brigade department while talking to the media persons. The PCMC’s move comes after a fire incident at a children’s hospital in Delhi in May this year, which resulted in the loss of seven lives.

The civic body has initiated a process to physically inspect each establishment before issuing an NOC, ensuring that fire safety measures are in place. The PCMC’s crackdown on private hospitals and clinics lacking fire safety NOCs aims to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the safety of patients and staff.
