In a significant development, 44 students from Maharashtra have been selected for higher education abroad under the prestigious Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad Sarathi Scholarship Scheme this year. This number is slightly lower than last year’s 50 selected students .

The scholarship scheme, implemented since 2023, aims to provide financial support to meritorious students pursuing postgraduate degrees, diplomas, and PhD courses abroad. The selected students will have the opportunity to study in renowned universities in countries like Australia, England, and the USA, with a focus on various faculties including engineering, management, science, law, and more.

The selection process, however, was delayed due to the code of conduct for the recent state assembly elections. A committee headed by the president of the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Research, Training and Human Development Institute scrutinized the applications and finally selected the 44 students. The selection has been approved subject to inquiry by the home department, and students will be required to submit a bond to use their knowledge for the state’s benefit after completing their education.

Kuldeep Ambekar, president of Students’ Helping Hand, expressed concerns about the delay in the selection process and the fact that not all available seats were filled. “The process of the scheme must be completed on time, and students should be selected for all the seats available,” he said while talking to the media person.

A senior official from the state planning department clarified that the selection process was delayed due to the election code of conduct and will not take place for the next academic year.
