Pune, 18 July, 2026: In a major step to improve transparency in the college admission process, the Maharashtra government has directed all colleges to prominently display their approved admission fee structure on notice boards at their entrances. The move is aimed at preventing students from being charged fees beyond the approved amount.

The directive was issued by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, who instructed colleges to clearly display the officially sanctioned fee structure. Students have also been advised to pay only the fees approved by the respective university or the Fee Regulating Authority.

Colleges have been asked to include updated fee details not only on campus notice boards but also in their admission brochures before the admission process begins. The initiative is intended to protect students and parents from financial exploitation during admissions.

The Directorate of Higher Education has made colleges responsible for ensuring that prospective students are informed about the approved fee structure before taking admission. Universities and Regional Joint Directors of Higher Education have been instructed to verify compliance with the order. Complaints related to excess fee collection or failure to display the prescribed information will be investigated, and institutions found violating the rules will face action.

The Directorate has also warned that non-compliance could result in strict administrative measures, including withholding the salaries of staff at defaulting colleges. Regional Joint Directors have been asked to initiate appropriate action against institutions that fail to follow the directive.

According to the Directorate of Higher Education, 1,227 out of Maharashtra’s 1,239 aided colleges have already installed admission fee display boards. The government believes the initiative will make the admission process more transparent while safeguarding the interests of students and parents.
