The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has formed six special squads to take action against drivers offering app-based carpooling services, which is prohibited by the state transport department. These squads will target private cars providing carpooling services through various vehicle-aggregator apps, particularly those operating between Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik.

The state transport department has issued a circular stating that action will be taken against cars connected to these apps. To catch offenders, teams will be deployed at key locations such as Navale Bridge Chowk, Chandani Chowk, Swargate, and Pune Railway Station. Private vehicles booked through these apps will be intercepted, and action will be taken through e-challans.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer Vinayak Sakhre while speaking to the media person stated that, “Passenger transport through vehicle-aggregator apps is illegal. We have formed six squads to inspect vehicles and take action. The traffic police will also help identify pickup points and take action against these apps.”

Sakhre emphasized that these apps operate without a valid transport license, and drivers do not have a passenger transportation badge. In the event of an accident, no accident insurance claim can be made.
