Mumbai: The registration process for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in private schools, reserving 25% of seats for economically weaker and disadvantaged sections, will commence on Tuesday, January 14. Parents can submit online applications between January 14 and January 27.

According to data from the RTE portal, 8,849 schools across the state have registered for the admission process, offering a total of 1,08,961 seats. Pune district leads in participation with 951 schools registering, collectively offering 18,451 seats for RTE admissions this year.

Sharad Gosavi, Director of the Directorate of Primary Education, shared this update in a circular. Under RTE provisions, private schools provide free education to students from Class 1 to Class 8, with the state education department reimbursing their fees.

The registration process for schools began on December 18, with an initial deadline of December 31. Due to lower-than-expected registrations, the deadline was extended to January 4. With schools now registered, the focus shifts to the online application phase eagerly awaited by parents.

This initiative continues to provide vital educational opportunities for underprivileged children across Maharashtra.
