UGC-NET Exam Scheduled For January 15 Postponed Due To Festivals, Confirms NTA
New Date to Be Announced; January 16 Exams Remain Unaffected
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) scheduled for January 15, 2025, has been postponed due to the observance of Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and other festivals. The new date for the exam will be communicated later.
In a public notice, the NTA stated that the decision was made in the interest of students to avoid conflicts with significant cultural and regional events. The postponed exam was originally set to cover 17 subjects, including Mass Communication, Journalism, Law, Electronic Science, and Environmental Sciences, across two shifts.
The exams scheduled for January 16, covering 13 subjects such as Sociology, German, and Hindu Studies, will proceed as planned.
This postponement follows appeals by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, who urged the Union Education Ministry to reschedule exams clashing with the festival season.
UGC-NET is a national-level exam conducted by NTA on behalf of the University Grants Commission to qualify candidates for Junior Research Fellowships, assistant professorships, and PhD admissions.
