Caregiver Arrested for Raping Mentally Ill Woman in Pune
Pune, January 20, 2025: A shocking incident has come to light where a caregiver was arrested for allegedly raping a mentally ill woman under his care. The Bharati Vidyapeeth Police have taken the 34-year-old accused into custody following a complaint filed by the victim’s relative.
According to the police, the 38-year-old victim, who suffers from mental health issues, was under the care of the accused. Between January 3 and January 10, the accused allegedly threatened and repeatedly raped the woman. Due to her condition, the victim initially refrained from disclosing the abuse. Eventually, she informed her family, leading to the filing of a complaint.
Senior Police Inspector Savalram Salgaonkar and Crime Branch Inspector Sangeeta Devkate visited the crime scene. Police Sub-Inspector Priyanka Nikam is leading the investigation into the case.
The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting the need for stricter safeguards for vulnerable individuals under professional care. Further investigations are underway.
