India’s first Push-Pull train:
Operates between Mumbai and Delhi, known as train number 22221/22222 CSMT-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express. The Push-Pull technology involves using two locomotives—one at the front and another at the rear eliminating the need to attach and detach bankers in the ghat sections. This process saves valuable time, reducing the overall journey duration. This Rajdhani Express holds the distinction of being the first train in India to run using Push-Pull technology, a significant step towards fulfilling the Government’s “Mission Raftar” initiative. This achievement marks another milestone in the history of Indian Railways. The iconic Rajdhani Express embodies the progress of Indian Railways by offering passengers speed, comfort, and reliability while setting new standards in operational efficiency.
· The CSMT-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express recently celebrated its 6th anniversary.
Launched on January 19, 2019, train number 22221/22222 initially began its commercial service with one First AC, three AC 2-Tier, eight AC 3-Tier coaches, and one pantry car. The train quickly gained immense popularity, and within less than a month of its debut, two additional AC-2 Tier and AC-3 Tier coaches were added to accommodate the growing demand.

Recently, the train completed six years of its journey. The CSMT-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express (train numbers 22221/22222) is managed and operated by the Central Railway (CR) zone. Initially launched as a bi-weekly service, the train’s frequency was increased to four times a week starting from September 13, 2019. On its second anniversary, January 19, 2021, the service was further upgraded to operate daily.
· Traveling Time between two cities:
The CSMT-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express covers a distance of 1543 km in approximately 17 hours and 55 minutes. It departs from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai at 16:00 hrs daily and reaches Hazrat Nizamuddin at 09:55 hrs the following day, with stops at Kalyan, Nashik Road, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Bhopal, Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, Gwalior, and Agra Cantt. On its return journey, the train leaves Hazrat Nizamuddin at 16:55 hrs daily and arrives at Mumbai’s CSMT at 11:15 hrs the next day.
