Pune: The long-standing issue of acquiring additional land for the ramp on the Pashan side of the double-decker flyover at Acharya Anand Rishiji Chowk, near Savitribai Phule Pune University, has finally been resolved. The necessary land will be acquired in coordination with the Progressive Education Society’s Modern College. Once the land is handed over, the construction of the ramp will be completed within three months, according to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

A meeting was held on Thursday in the presence of Aniruddha Pawaskar, Head of the Road Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation; Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Metropolitan Commissioner; Dr. Gajanan Ekbote, Executive President of the PES Society; Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan; and other officials. Dr. Ekbote confirmed that an agreement was reached to proceed with land acquisition and compensation in a coordinated manner.

Around 4,000 square feet of additional land from the Modern College campus, managed by the PES Society, is required for the ramp. This land currently houses a botanical garden, canteen, and classrooms for various courses. The botanical garden includes several indigenous and exotic plant species. To address this, the trees from the garden will be safely transplanted to another location within the college premises. Details regarding compensation and alternative arrangements will be submitted to PMRDA by January 27, 2025 (Monday). A formal agreement has been signed, and the land acquisition process has been approved, added Dr. Ekbote.
