In a surprising turn of events, the fingerprints of Shariful Islam, the accused in the Saif Ali Khan attack and burglary case, have not matched the fingerprints collected from the actor’s Bandra residence.

Key Developments in the Investigation

Mumbai Police have confirmed that 19 sets of fingerprints retrieved from the crime scene were analyzed by the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID). However, a forensic report revealed no correspondence between these prints and those of the accused.

The CID has informed Mumbai Police that the fingerprint results are negative, and additional samples are now being analyzed to advance the investigation.

The Incident

The incident occurred on January 15 when a burglar unlawfully entered the 54-year-old actor’s home and assaulted him with a knife. Saif Ali Khan sustained six stab wounds during the confrontation, one of which seriously injured his spine.

The accused, Shariful Islam, is a Bangladeshi national who entered India illegally. He claimed to authorities that he had been promised counterfeit citizenship documents for a fee, which motivated him to break into the actor’s residence.

Investigation Techniques

Shariful’s arrest was facilitated by CCTV footage, and authorities employed facial recognition technology to narrow down potential suspects. Despite the unclear footage of the suspect leaving the building, Western Railway collaborated with the police to match the intruder’s facial features with potential leads.

Ongoing Efforts

The Mumbai Police are actively pursuing the individual who allegedly promised Shariful counterfeit citizenship documents. Meanwhile, further evidence is being gathered to build a stronger case against the accused.

Implications

The revelation that the fingerprints from the scene do not match those of the accused raises critical questions about the investigation. Authorities are now exploring alternative leads and ensuring that all evidence is meticulously examined.

Stay tuned for updates as the investigation unfolds.
