Everything You Need to Know About BH Series Number Plates: Eligibility, Costs, and Application Process

Nowadays, number plates are beginning with “BH” instead of the traditional state codes, which signifies the new BH series. This series is designed for individuals such as state and central government employees, defense personnel, bank employees, and private sector workers in companies with operations in four or more states or union territories.

One of the key benefits of the BH series number plate is that it allows vehicles registered in one state to be used nationwide without the need for re-registration when moving to a different state. Typically, vehicles must be registered in the new state after 12 months, but the BH series eliminates this hassle, saving time and reducing paperwork.

Additionally, road tax for vehicles with BH series plates is paid for two years or in multiples of two, such as four, six, or eight years, which can lead to considerable savings. This initiative not only simplifies vehicle management for those who frequently relocate but also facilitates easier interstate travel and commerce, contributing to a more integrated national economy.

Moreover, the BH series helps maintain a consistent identification system for vehicles across states, which aids in better regulation and tracking, enhancing overall road safety and governance.

To apply for a BH series number plate, you have two options: you can either apply yourself through the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Vahan portal or seek assistance from your car dealership. If you choose to have the dealership handle the application, they will fill out Form 20 on your behalf.

For private employees, it’s necessary to submit Form 60, which is a Working Certificate, along with an official employee ID.

When applying, make sure to select the “BH” series option during the application process. You’ll also need to pay the required fees and motor vehicle tax online. After submission, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) will verify your eligibility and approve your application.

As for the documents needed to apply for a BH series number plate, you’ll need to provide the following:

  • – PAN card
  • – Aadhaar card
  • – Official ID card
  • – Form 60

Additionally, it’s a good idea to have proof of employment or a salary slip handy, as it may help expedite the process. Once your application is approved, you’ll receive your BH series number plate, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of easier interstate vehicle use.

BH Series Number Plate Road Tax/Fees:

The road tax for the BH series is paid for two years at a time, or in multiples of two, such as four, six, or eight years. After the vehicle reaches 14 years of age, the road tax is then paid on an annual basis.

In addition to the road tax, the registration fees can vary by state but typically range from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000. This amount usually includes charges for hypothecation (if applicable) and the number plate itself.
