Pune: Cybercriminals continue to deceive citizens through various online traps, with scams involving stock market investments and online tasks becoming increasingly common. In a recent incident, a 77-year-old senior citizen from Sahakarnagar lost ₹4 lakh after opening an APK file sent by fraudsters. The Sahakarnagar police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act based on the victim’s complaint.

According to police reports, the scammers contacted the victim last month, posing as representatives from a private company’s customer service department. They lured the elderly man by promising assistance and sent an APK file to his mobile phone. Upon opening the file, the criminals accessed sensitive information linked to his bank account and siphoned ₹4 lakh.

Inspector Amol More from the Crime Branch is investigating the case. Police have urged citizens to avoid responding to unknown contacts and to refrain from opening suspicious files or links to prevent similar scams.
