The Rs 1,100-crore elevated corridor project to improve connectivity between the Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink (MTHL) and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be completed by February 2027, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced.

The project consists of two elevated corridors—one from the Chirle end of MTHL to Gavan Phata and another from Palaspe Phata to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The aim is to ease congestion, particularly on NH-348, which carries heavy container traffic from JNPT.

A six-lane elevated corridor will be built over the JNPT–Panvel National Highway (NH-348) between Chirle and Gavan Phata. This includes reconstructing service roads. Another six-lane corridor will be built along the Old Mumbai-Pune National Highway (NH-48) in Raigad district, along with widening NH-48 to six lanes.

The project, being executed by Gawar Construction Ltd at a cost of Rs 1,102.75 crore, is expected to reshape regional travel. “This initiative will change how people and businesses move between Mumbai and Pune. Professionals will be able to work in Mumbai while residing in Pune, improving opportunities and quality of life,” officials said.

The elevated corridor at the Chirle section will have a length of 4,958 metres, while the Palaspe section will be 1,700 metres long. The corridors will integrate Atal Setu with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion at key junctions.

Excavation work has begun, marking the start of this major infrastructure development. The project is expected to enhance connectivity, make travel smoother, and boost economic growth in the region.
