Young Woman from Baramati Dies Due to GBS in Pune

Kiran Rajendra Deshmukh, a young woman from Baramati, passed away on Tuesday (Feb 18) due to GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome). She had been battling the illness for over three weeks.

Kiran was staying with her relatives for studies in the Sinhagad area. During this time, cases of GBS began to rise in Pune, including in her locality. Soon, she started showing symptoms of the disease. She experienced diarrhea and weakness, which led her to return to Baramati to be with her family. Concerned about her health, her family consulted medical experts in Baramati. 

Doctors suspected GBS based on her symptoms and advised immediate treatment in Pune.

Following their advice, Kiran was admitted to a hospital in Pune on January 27 for advanced treatment. However, her condition continued to worsen. Despite doctors’ efforts, she passed away on Tuesday at the hospital.

Taluka Health Officer Dr. Manoj Khomne confirmed her death and provided details about her treatment.

GBS is a rare neurological disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves. It can cause weakness, paralysis, and even death in severe cases.

Kiran’s tragic death has raised concerns about the increasing cases of GBS in Pune and surrounding areas. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation.

Her untimely demise has left her family and the local community in deep grief.
