NCL Pune Opens Archives And Science Museum Showcasing Chemical Research & Innovations
Pune, February 20, 2025 – The National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) has inaugurated an archives and science museum to mark its platinum jubilee. The initiative aims to serve as an educational resource for students and young scientists, offering insights into the evolution of chemistry, the history of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and the groundbreaking research at NCL.
The museum features three key sections:
- Ancient Chemistry & Traditions – Showcasing India’s rich history in chemical sciences, including ancient coinage and perfumery techniques.
- CSIR’s Journey & Contributions – Tracing the establishment of CSIR in 1942, highlighting the achievements of pioneering scientists like Dr. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, and NCL’s role in pharmaceutical and environmental advancements.
- Modern Research & Innovation – Focusing on NCL’s cutting-edge work in sustainable energy, biotechnology, green hydrogen production, and advanced catalytic technologies.
The launch event will be attended by prominent figures, including Biocon Chairperson Dr. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, former CSIR Director-General Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, and NCL Director Dr. Ashish Lele. A coffee table book commemorating NCL’s 75-year journey will also be released.
The museum and archives stand as a testament to NCL’s legacy of excellence. It will inspire innovation and provide insights into India’s contributions to chemical sciences and sustainable technologies.
