In a disturbing incident that raises questions about law enforcement safety, a police constable was brutally assaulted by four intoxicated men near Ratna Hospital on Senapati Bapat Road. The attack, which took place on February 14, has led to the arrest of three accused, while one remains absconding. However, the delayed filing of the FIR has sparked controversy.

Cop Targeted for Stopping Public Nuisance

The victim, identified as Chandrakant Jadhav (42), is a police constable at Sahakarnagar Police Station. He was returning home after a combing operation when he noticed four men drinking inside an autorickshaw and creating a ruckus. Upon confronting them, they turned aggressive, saying, “We know you’re a cop, but not from here, so don’t try to lecture us.”

The accused, Rupesh Manjrekar, Aniket Ghodke, and Abhishek Dongre, all local residents, allegedly dragged Jadhav into the rickshaw and physically assaulted him. One of them even attempted to strike his head with a stone, potentially endangering his life.

Police Inaction Sparks Concern

Despite managing to escape and capture photos of the attackers on his phone, Jadhav’s mobile was later snatched by the assailants and is yet to be recovered.

Vijayanand Patil, Senior Inspector at Chaturshringi Police Station, confirmed, “Three accused were arrested on February 16, while one remains absconding. The matter is under investigation.”

However, the fact that the FIR was registered two days after the attack has raised serious concerns about police response and procedural delays.

Brazen Attack Exposes Lawlessness

The incident has shocked Pune residents, as the attackers displayed no fear despite knowing Jadhav was a police officer. The delay in registering the complaint further raises concerns about law enforcement’s ability to protect its own personnel.

With one accused still on the run, the Pune Police face mounting pressure to ensure justice and restore confidence in public safety.
