Vidya Balan Warns Fans About AI-Generated Deepfake Video, Urges Caution

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has issued a public warning regarding AI-generated deepfake videos falsely depicting her. She urged her fans and the public to verify content before sharing it on social media.

Taking to her social media, Vidya highlighted that multiple fake videos featuring her are circulating on various platforms, including WhatsApp. The actress emphasized that she has no involvement in the creation or dissemination of these videos.

“There are multiple videos currently circulating on social media and WhatsApp, which appear to feature me. However, I want to clarify that these videos are AI-generated and inauthentic. I have no involvement in their creation or distribution, nor do I endorse their content in any way,” she wrote

She further stated, “Any claims made in these videos should not be attributed to me, as they do not reflect my views or work. I urge everyone to verify information before sharing and be cautious of misleading AI-generated content.”

Accompanying her post, Vidya shared one such deepfake video with a bold ‘Scam Alert’ warning. In the manipulated clip, an AI-generated version of the actress is seen sitting on a sofa, greeting viewers with, “Hey, main hoon aap sabki favourite Vidya Balan…”

Growing Threat of Deepfake Scams

Vidya Balan is the latest celebrity to fall victim to AI-generated deepfakes. Previously, actresses Rashmika Mandanna and Deepika Padukone were also targeted in similar digital scams. Other stars, including Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, have also been subjected to such deceptive content.

Vidya Balan’s Recent Work

On the professional front, Vidya Balan was last seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which was a box office success. The film, starring Kartik Aaryan and Madhuri Dixit in pivotal roles, was released during Diwali 2024.
