Pune: Kalepadal Police Seize Banned Gutkha And Tobacco Products Worth ₹1.09 Lakh, One Arrested
Pune, June 26, 2026: The Kalepadal Police in Pune have arrested a 24-year-old man and seized banned gutkha and tobacco products worth ₹1.09 lakh during a raid in the Hadapsar area.
According to the police, a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and regulations related to the manufacture, storage and sale of prohibited tobacco products.

The accused has been identified as Sheraram Kanaram Devasi (24), a daily wage worker residing in Sanket Vihar, Kalepadal, Hadapsar.
Acting on a tip-off received by Police Constable Amol Phadtare and Police Constable Mahadev Shinde, the police intercepted the accused near Kejurkat Vasti, close to Dey Company, Kalepadal, while he was allegedly transporting banned tobacco products valued at ₹14,520. During interrogation, the accused reportedly disclosed that he had obtained the goods from his associate Sagar Parmar (33), a resident of Keshav Nagar, Kalepadal.
Based on this information, the police conducted a raid at a locked room in Katekeshwar Colony, Lane No. 15, Kalepadal, where they recovered a large stock of banned gutkha and tobacco products allegedly stored for distribution to local vendors.
In total, police seized prohibited tobacco products worth ₹1,09,000 from the accused.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Jeevan Benival, Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Navgire, and Senior Police Inspector Girish Nimbalkar of Kalepadal Police Station.
The raid was executed by a team led by Police Inspector (Crime) Annaso Babar, along with Assistant Police Inspector Amit Shete, Police Sub-Inspector Vinayak Garud, and other members of the investigation team.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify the source and distribution network of the banned tobacco products.
