Vat Purnima 2026: Auspicious Timings, Puja Rituals. All You Need To Know
Pune, June 26, 2026: Vat Purnima, one of the most significant festivals for married Hindu women, will be observed on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, the festival is dedicated to praying for the long life, well-being, and prosperity of one’s husband. Women observe a day-long fast and worship the banyan tree (Vat Vriksha), following the legend of Savitri and Satyavan.
According to the Hindu calendar, the Purnima Tithi will begin at 3:07 am on June 29 and conclude at 5:27 am on June 30.

Auspicious Puja Timing
The most favourable time to perform the Vat Purnima puja is between 6:30 am and 12:30 pm on June 29.
Devotees are also advised not to perform the banyan tree worship between 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm, as this period is considered unsuitable for the ritual according to traditional beliefs.
Items Required for the Puja
The following items are commonly used during the ritual:
- Turmeric, vermilion (kumkum), rice grains (akshata), flowers, and an oil lamp
- White cotton thread or sacred thread to tie around the banyan tree
- Bangles, mangalsutra, and other symbols of marital auspiciousness
- Betel leaves, a water-filled kalash (pot), mangoes, and five varieties of fruits
Vat Purnima Puja Ritual
Women should wake up before sunrise, take a holy bath, and wear clean or traditional attire along with marital ornaments. After reaching the banyan tree or the designated place of worship, devotees should offer water to the tree, followed by turmeric, vermilion, flowers, rice grains, and fruits.
The worship of Goddess Savitri is then performed, after which women tie a white cotton thread around the banyan tree while circumambulating it and praying for their husband’s long life and a lifelong bond.
After completing the ritual, devotees traditionally listen to or read the sacred story of Savitri and Satyavan, which forms the spiritual significance of the Vat Purnima festival.
