Mahavitaran Suspends Senior Engineer Over Unauthorised Letter to Adani Firm on Smart Meters
Mahavitaran has suspended a senior engineer for allegedly issuing an unauthorised letter to Adani Energy Solutions regarding the installation of smart electricity meters.
The suspended official, Madan Sangle, Superintending Engineer of Mahavitaran’s Palghar Circle Office, had written to Adani Energy Solutions stating that replacing existing residential electricity meters with smart meters without consumers’ prior consent could lead to public resentment, disputes, and protests. The letter also stated that the company would be held responsible for any consequences arising from such installations.

According to Mahavitaran, the communication was sent without obtaining approval from senior authorities and violated the organisation’s established administrative procedures.
Following the incident, the Joint Managing Director of Mahavitaran’s Konkan Regional Office ordered Sangle’s suspension.
In an official statement, Mahavitaran said the unauthorised correspondence was viewed as a serious act of indiscipline and a breach of the administrative hierarchy. The utility alleged that the engineer expressed a position contrary to the company’s official stand and shared it with an external organisation without informing or seeking permission from his superiors.
Mahavitaran reiterated that all officials must follow prescribed protocols while communicating with outside agencies and warned that any violation of these procedures would invite disciplinary action.
