Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 is set to be presented on March 4. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale will submit the budget before the Standing Committee on the same day, with the possibility of final approval in the general body meeting. Given the state government’s ruling coalition, there is speculation that the budget may reflect the influence of the BJP.

This will be Dr. Bhosale’s first and last budget as commissioner, as he is set to retire in two months. Citizens are eager to see which projects will receive priority and how funds will be allocated for public welfare. As per municipal regulations, the commissioner was required to present the budget by January 15, but it will now be introduced in March, continuing a trend observed over the past three years.

BJP’s Influence on the Budget?

With municipal elections delayed, the PMC has been under administrative rule for three years, with the commissioner handling all responsibilities. Reports suggest that Dr. Bhosale held discussions with municipal officials at the state legislative building while preparing the budget. Opposition parties criticized these meetings, alleging political influence.

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil had publicly stated that BJP councilors and MLAs had submitted lists of their funding demands for the municipal budget. The upcoming budget will reveal whether former BJP councilors and leaders have been given preferential allocations.
