Pune: A video showing a man falling into a waterlogged pothole on the service road along the Pune-Bengaluru Highway near Punawale has gone viral on social media, raising fresh concerns over the poor condition of roads during the monsoon.

The incident reportedly occurred after the man unknowingly stepped into a pothole hidden beneath accumulated rainwater, causing him to lose his balance and fall. The video has drawn widespread attention, with residents highlighting the dangers posed by waterlogged roads.

Locals alleged that rainwater has concealed several deep potholes on the stretch, making it difficult for motorists and pedestrians to identify them. They warned that such conditions pose a serious risk, particularly to two-wheeler riders, and could lead to major accidents.

Residents further claimed that the service road develops large potholes every monsoon and accused the authorities of failing to carry out timely repairs despite repeated complaints. They also alleged that ongoing roadwork during the rainy season has worsened the condition of the road.

“This is happening every monsoon. Waterlogged potholes are invisible to commuters and can easily lead to serious accidents. Had a heavy vehicle been passing behind the man, the incident could have turned fatal,” a local resident said.

The viral video has once again brought the spotlight on the need for immediate repairs and improved road maintenance to ensure the safety of commuters during the monsoon season.
