Pune News: 500 Wakad-Tathawade Residents Hold Silent Protest Against Rising Air Pollution
Wakad, March 8, 2025: Over 500 residents from more than 22 housing societies in Wakad and Tathawade took to the streets on Friday in a silent protest against increasing air pollution caused by cement-mixed dust and construction debris. The demonstrators demanded immediate action from authorities to ensure cleaner and healthier living conditions.
Organized by the Wakad-Tathawade Housing Societies Forum, the march commenced from Kohinoor Courtyard One Society, passing through Indira School Road and culminating at Wakadkar Chowk. A diverse group, including senior citizens, women, and children, participated in the protest.
Residents’ Concerns:
Residents highlighted the deteriorating air quality due to excessive dust from construction activities and vehicular emissions. Many reported a rise in respiratory ailments, including asthma and allergies, particularly among children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Despite multiple complaints to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), PMRDA, and local representatives, residents claimed that no substantial action had been taken to curb pollution.

Protesters have warned that if authorities fail to act, they will escalate their movement.

“Clean air is our right, and we will continue our struggle until it is ensured,” residents asserted.
