Maharashtra Rain Update: IMD Clarifies No Statewide Heavy Rain Forecast, Warns Against Fake Viral Alerts
Mumbai, July 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has dismissed viral social media messages claiming that Maharashtra will witness widespread heavy rainfall over the next two weeks, urging citizens to rely only on official weather updates.
The clarification comes after several posts circulating on social media suggested that the state was likely to receive intense rainfall in the coming fortnight, triggering concern among residents.

Responding to the rumours, K.S. Hosalikar, ex Deputy Director General of the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai, said the messages are false and misleading. In a post on social media, he appealed to the public not to believe or forward unverified weather forecasts and to follow only official advisories issued by the IMD.
According to the latest forecast, most parts of Maharashtra, except the Konkan region, are expected to receive relatively low rainfall between July 13 and July 20.
However, the IMD said Konkan and the adjoining Western Ghats could continue to experience heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions during this period. Localised spells of intense rain in these regions cannot be ruled out.
After several days of heavy monsoon showers that caused flooding and disruption across parts of the state, rainfall activity has eased over the past three to four days, bringing relief to affected areas, including Mumbai.
The IMD has advised citizens to monitor weather updates through its official channels and avoid relying on unverified information circulating on social media.
