Pune: On March 9, a human chain was formed at Krantiveer Chaphekar Chowk, Chinchwad, as residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad came together to highlight the deteriorating condition of the Pavana, Mula, and Indrayani rivers. The movement aimed to draw attention to critical environmental and health concerns arising from water pollution.
Participants questioned the quality of drinking water and raised concerns about the excessive use of chlorine, which is believed to have adverse effects on the liver and kidneys. The rising number of cancer cases was another major issue discussed. Environmentalists and activists emphasized the need to revive polluted rivers and examined the potential impact of the Riverfront Development Project, estimated to cost between ₹2,000-4,000 crore. Many also sought clarity on the connection between GBS disease and river water contamination.

The gathering urged authorities to provide concrete answers and take immediate action to restore the rivers to their natural state. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens who pledged their commitment to river conservation for future generations.
