Pune News: Pimpri Market Turns Vehicle-Free, Citizens Enjoy Cultural Fest
Traders, shopkeepers, and residents appreciate Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s initiative.
Pimpri, March 10, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) organized its first-ever vehicle-free day on March 8 and 9, 2025, from 8 AM to 9 PM in the Pimpri Market area (Sai Chowk to Maharshi Valmiki Chowk). Citizens of all ages, including children, women, and senior citizens, enjoyed the event along with cultural programs.
To mark the occasion, discussions were held on road safety, pollution reduction, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, cycling tracks, and public transport. Experts from various fields participated, and several entertainment activities were conducted for all age groups. A 500-meter stretch was covered with shade structures to provide relief from the sun.
The event saw the presence of key officials, including Chief Engineer Pramod Ombhase, Deputy City Engineer Bapu Gaikwad, Regional Officer Kishor Nanaware, Executive Engineers Prerana Sinker, Rajendra Shinde, Nitin Nimbalkar, Balu Lande, Vijay Bhojne, and Sunil Pawar. Also present were Public Relations Officer Praful Puranik, Assistant Engineer Shirish Poreddi, representatives from ITDP, design school experts, traders, shopkeepers, students, social workers, and a large number of women.
Activities like Zumba, laughter yoga, live music, street plays, dance performances, and games were organized. On Women’s Day, special events such as dance performances, cycling, “Paithani Game,” live music, and quizzes added to the celebrations.
The event, held under the guidance of PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, has received widespread appreciation from the public.
Officials Engage with Citizens
During the “Chai Pe Charcha” session, former municipal corporators, police officers, and residents discussed ways to promote public transport and raise awareness about sustainable commuting.
