Pune: The city is reeling under intense heat, with temperatures soaring to 39.5°C—unusually high for early March. On Saturday, Pune’s Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 38°C, which was 3.1°C above normal, making this the hottest first week of March in the past decade.

According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune’s average maximum temperature for the first week of March 2025 stood at 36.6°C, significantly higher than previous years. In 2024, it was 34.5°C, while in 2023, it was 33.8°C.

Other areas in Pune have also witnessed a sharp rise in temperatures. Koregaon Park recorded 39.1°C, while Chinchwad saw 39.4°C. Across Madhya Maharashtra, Solapur hit 39.1°C, Sangli recorded 38.5°C, and Satara saw 38.2°C—each exceeding normal levels by 2-3°C.

The temperatures are expected to rise by another 1-2°C in the coming days. Authorities have issued advisories urging citizens to stay hydrated and avoid sun exposure as heatwave conditions intensify across parts of Maharashtra.
