Maharashtra Offers Fitment Fee Waiver for Bulk HSRP Installations in Housing Societies, But There’s a Catch
Maharashtra Government Mandates High-Security Registration Plates For Old Vehicles; Advises Online Payment Only Via Official Website
Mumbai: In a move to simplify high-security registration plate (HSRP) installations for older vehicles, the Maharashtra Transport Commissionerate has introduced a new scheme benefiting housing societies. Vehicle owners residing in the same building or society can now register for HSRPs in bulk, and if 25 or more members sign up, the official agency will install the plates at their premises. This eliminates the need for vehicle owners to visit designated centers and exempts them from the additional home installation fee.
Previously, those opting for home installation had to pay Rs. 125 for two-wheelers and Rs. 250 for four-wheelers. Under this new initiative, society-based bulk registrations will not be subject to these charges, making the process more affordable and convenient. Additionally, the scheme aims to reduce congestion at registration centers and encourage timely compliance.
The cost of HSRP installation remains unchanged:
- Rs. 531 for two-wheelers
- Rs. 590 for three-wheelers
- Rs. 879 for four-wheelers and commercial vehicles
Independent agencies have been appointed to handle installations across three operational zones in the state.
Authorities have also issued a warning regarding fines for delayed HSRP installation. The government has extended the deadline for vehicles registered before 2019 from April 30th to June 30th due to slow implementation. Many older vehicles are still operating without these mandatory tamper-proof plates, and officials urge owners to take advantage of the society-based registration option to avoid last-minute hassles and penalties.
