Pune resident Shobhana Lohpatre, who met with a severe accident in Port Blair, was successfully airlifted to Pune for urgent medical treatment. The swift coordination of an air ambulance and a ‘green corridor’ ensured her timely transfer from Pune Airport to Poona Hospital in just 13 minutes.

Lohpatre and her family were on a trip to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands when the accident occurred on March 26. A speeding vehicle collided with the rented two-wheeler she was riding on a small island with no medical facilities. Given the severity of her injuries, the Indian Air Force facilitated an emergency evacuation to Port Blair, from where an air ambulance was arranged to transport her to Pune.

The air ambulance landed at Pune Airport at 9:30 PM on Thursday. Following instructions from authorities, Pune Police created a ‘green corridor,’ enabling a rapid transfer to Poona Hospital. Doctors confirmed that Lohpatre had suffered a serious head injury with internal bleeding. However, the first phase of her surgery was successful, and she is now undergoing further treatment.

The urgent medical evacuation was made possible through the efforts of Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, who is also the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation. Authorities and medical teams worked seamlessly to ensure the patient’s safe arrival and timely intervention, highlighting the efficiency of emergency response systems in critical situations.
